Election 2012 - Are The Real Issues Finally Before The Public?
Is the flag waving "Welcome" or "Goodbye"?
47% + 47% + 6%....but what % will vote?
It took a taping made public to finally join the real issues that needed discussion this election cycle! (A taping for which someone or some political party donated $25,000 to the Romney campaign in order to be present and record at a Boca Raton Romney fundraiser.)
Now we are looking at the crux of Election 2012. What can we possibly do to end our spending beyond our means?
We might add, can either Romney or Obama, and the other Democrats or the Republicans successfully challenge Americans to anticipate and actually make the sacrifices which doing so will require?
Yes, immigration is also an issue, as are education, foreign wars, Guantanamo, foreign policy (Europe, Iran, Israel, Al Queda), and all the rest (even birth control). But if we don't stop shoveling out the cash, printing dollars like they are going out of style (and they are), borrowing from anyone who still has faith in the "full faith and credit" of a dysfunctional U. S. Government, nothing else is going to matter where America's future is concerned!
Whoever taped Romney's fundraiser pitch, and for whatever motive or motives they made it public, Americans can only benefit, if it finally forces Obama and Romney to address the long list of entitlements and the fact that politicians have for years bought votes by giving away America's future to the banks and foreign lenders.
The Poor Farm, and the Public Dole, used to be derogatory terms and still are, but from a bygone age. Folks who were down on their luck or at their wits end could go to work on the Poor Farm, while others sometimes could receive government funds which the government "doled out" starting with Britain's public money payments to her unemployed in 1918, and far exceeded by today's renewed, renewing, and apparently infinitely renewable U. S. unemployment compensation.
The New Deal which stumbled along to finally bring America out of the Depression in the 1930's, started a trend which brought my grandfather to comment that "They will never get the country back the way it was!" Grampa was right. The New Deal solved serious temporary problems by means which have brought us to today's long term consequences.
What questions must the upcoming presidential debates address?
How to finance a first class education for our children, when we are broke but won't admit it?
How to keep full faith with our Social Security recipients of today and tomorrow, when we spent all those funds yesterday?
How to maintain our military and secure our borders, when some of the funds for doing so are so desperately needed to repair our decaying energy grid, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure?
How to provide everyone with affordable health insurance, when hospitals are increasingly run by distant corporations focused on maximum profitability, with too few doctors and nurses to provide the quality care we want to promise Americans?
How to have strong unions and collective bargaining, when unions must become part of the solution at the same time they are part of the problem?
How to maintain the role of state government, when we make it so dependent on federal money and regulations?
How to insure farmers against droughts, floods, and over-production, when the rest of us are hurting too?
How to cope with lobbyists and their special interests, when the common good is in danger?
How to care for our veterans and citizens with special needs, when our workforce is shrinking and the available workforce is significantly unemployed?
The New Deal once promised a "death benefit" which would at least allow a decent burial for all Americans. But the present benefit of $255 which might have buried someone "decently" in the 1930's hasn't kept up with the times either. It has become a joke insurance salesmen tell.
Yes, times have changed.
Hopefully, the public debate over the Romney fundraiser taping has opened the door for the upcoming debates (including the added "Minorities Debate") to finally discuss not only the nation's symptoms, but the cures for the nation's sickness.
